Emergency Was Dark Era In India’s History, Those Supporting Democracy Faced Atrocities: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 102nd episode of the radio broadcast of Mann Ki Baat said the emergency was a dark era in the country's history.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his monthly radio broadcast of Mann Ki Baat's 102nd episode on Sunday, said the emergency was a dark era in the country's history when atrocities were committed on those supporting democracy in India. While speaking in the show, he stated that India is the mother of democracy and the country's democratic values and the Constitution are supreme. Emergency was imposed in 1975 by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
At 'Mann Ki Baat', PM Modi remarked, "We cannot forget June 25 when emergency was imposed on us.”

He also praised India's increasing capability to deal with natural disasters. Modi expressed confidence that the people of Kachchh will quickly recover from the devastation caused by cyclone Biparjoy.
The Prime Minister emphasised that in the last few years, India's disaster management capability has increased and it is becoming an example for others to follow. Speaking of the valour of Chhatrapati Shivaji, PM Modi said a lot was to be learned from his governance along with his bravery.
"His management skills particularly water management and the Navy still remain the pride of India," said PM Modi. In his radio broadcast, Modi highlighted that India has a target eradicating tuberculosis by 2025.
Modi talked about a Japanese technique called Miyawaki which is used to make an area green where the soil is not fertile and said that the technique was slowly and gradually being seen in India as well.
"Teacher Raafi Ramnath from Kerala used this technique to create a mini forest called 'Vidyavanam' with over 115 varieties. Many students and people visit this Miyawaki forest."
"This technique is getting popular in the world and is being used in many countries. I appeal to all the people of the nation especially one who are living in the urban areas, to use this technique and learn more about this," he added.
Speaking ahead of International Yoga Day, he said the theme for this year will be 'Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' which expresses the spirit of Yoga that unites and takes us together" and said that he will "lead a yoga session for the first time at UN Headquarters on the 9th International Day of Yoga."
