'Heritage Is Vital For Economic Growth, Diversification': PM Modi Addresses G20 Culture Ministers' Meet In Varanasi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the G20 Culture Working Group Meeting in Varanasi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that cultural heritage is a vital asset for economic growth and diversification and includes the traditions, customs, and festivals that are handed down through the generations. In a video message at the G20 Culture Working Group Meeting in Varanasi, PM Modi stated that culture has the potential to unite and also allows people to understand diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
"Cultural heritage is not just what is cast in stone, it is also the traditions, customs & festivals that are handed down the generations...We believe that heritage is a vital asset for economic growth & diversification," PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister also said, “Culture has an inherent potential to unite as it enables us to understand diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We, in India, are very proud of our eternal and diverse culture”.

During his address PM Modi said that everyone has the right to access and enjoy the cultural heritage. He stated India has brought back hundreds of such artefacts that showcase the glory of ancient civilisations. The Prime Minister also said that India is using technology to ensure better preservation of its cultural heritage. “We have been working hard to preserve and revitalise our heritage sites. We have mapped our cultural assets and artists, not just at the national level, but also at the level of all villages in India,” PM Modi said in the video message.
Speaking on Varanasi, also known as Kashi, PM Modi said that it is not just the world's oldest living city but also a treasure chest of knowledge. "Kashi is not just the world's oldest living city, it is said to be a treasure chest of knowledge, duty and truth. It is, indeed, the cultural and spiritual capital of India," PM Modi said.
