Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated Rajkot International Airport in Gujarat amid his two-day visit to his home state. The international airport at Hirasar village near Rajkot city is Gujarat's first greenfield airport. After the inauguration, PM Modi will then address a large gathering at the Race Course ground in Rajkot City. From the venue, the Prime Minister will dedicate packages eight and nine of the Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI) Yojana.

The greenfield airport at Rajkot has been developed in a total land area of more than 2,500 acres and at a cost of over Rs 1,400 crore. The Prime Minister’s vision to improve air connectivity across the country will get a fillip with the development of a new International Airport in Rajkot. The new airport has an amalgamation of modern technology and sustainable features, said the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in an official statement.

The terminal building is GRIHA -4 compliant (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) and the New Terminal Building (NITB) is equipped with various sustainability features like double insulated roofing system, skylights, LED lighting, low heat gain glazing, etc.
