PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates And Inspects Gujarat's First Greenfield Airport Near Rajkot — WATCH
PM Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated Rajkot International Airport in Gujarat, the state's first greenfield airport.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated Rajkot International Airport in Gujarat amid his two-day visit to his home state. The international airport at Hirasar village near Rajkot city is Gujarat's first greenfield airport. After the inauguration, PM Modi will then address a large gathering at the Race Course ground in Rajkot City. From the venue, the Prime Minister will dedicate packages eight and nine of the Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI) Yojana.
The greenfield airport at Rajkot has been developed in a total land area of more than 2,500 acres and at a cost of over Rs 1,400 crore. The Prime Minister’s vision to improve air connectivity across the country will get a fillip with the development of a new International Airport in Rajkot. The new airport has an amalgamation of modern technology and sustainable features, said the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in an official statement.

The terminal building is GRIHA -4 compliant (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) and the New Terminal Building (NITB) is equipped with various sustainability features like double insulated roofing system, skylights, LED lighting, low heat gain glazing, etc.
Inspired by Rajkot's cultural vibrancy, the airport terminal will depict art forms from Lippan art to Dandiya dance.

“The Airport will be an epitome of the local architectural heritage and will reflect the cultural glory of art and dance forms of the Kathiawar region of Gujarat. The new airport in Rajkot will contribute not only towards development of the local automobile industry of Rajkot but will also encourage trade, tourism, education and industrial sectors throughout Gujarat,” said the PMO.
The recently completed packages eight and nine of the SAUNI scheme will provide water to 52,398 acres of irrigable land in 95 villages and potable water to around 98,000 people of the Saurashtra region, a state government release informed.
From the venue, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate an over-bridge and a newly-constructed library.
On Friday, PM Modi will inaugurate the 'Semicon India 2023' exhibition in the state capital Gandhinagar, showcasing cutting-edge technology related to semiconductors.
