Flag Of Women Power Is Flying In New India: PM Modi Addresses Women SHG Sammelan In MP's Karahal

Madhya Pradesh News: PM Narendra Modi addressed the Women's Self Help Group (SHG) Sammelan organised at Karahal and spoke about his government's endeavours to empower the groups in every which way.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday participated in the Women's Self Help Group (SHG) Sammelan organised at Karahal in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur.

Addressing the gathering on his 72nd birthday, PM Modi said: "On this day, it is generally my endeavor to meet my mother (on this day), touch her feet and seek blessings. Today I could not go to her, but lakhs of mothers working hard in tribal areas and villages are blessing me here today."

Women all over – mothers and sisters - are my strength and inspiration, he added.

The Prime Minister emphasised that a huge difference between the India of the last century and the new India of this century has come as a representation of "our Nari Shakti". "In today's new India, from Panchayat Bhawan to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the flag of women power is flying," he said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

The Sammelan witnessed the attendance of thousands of women SHG members and community resource persons that are being promoted under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).

PM Modi said that in the last 8 years, his government has attempted to empower Self Help Groups in every which way. "Today more than 8 crore women across the country are associated with this campaign. We aim to have at least one sister from every rural household associated with this campaign," he stressed.

"Our government is working continuously to create new possibilities for women entrepreneurs in the village economy. Through 'One District, One Product' we are trying to take local products from every district to big markets," the Prime Minister added.

PM Modi Inaugurates Skilling Centres Under PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana

During the programme, Prime Minister inaugurated four Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) skilling centres under PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana.

As for the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), it aims to mobilise rural poor households into SHGs in a phased manner and provide them with long-term support to diversify their livelihoods and improve their incomes and quality of life, the Prime Minister's Office mentioned in a statement.

The Mission is also working towards empowering the women SHG members through awareness generation and behaviour change communication on issues like domestic violence, women’s education and other gender-related concerns, nutrition, sanitation, health etc.
