'Nehru Thought Indians Are Lazy, Indira Assessed Congress Correctly’: PM Modi Tears Into Congress

PM Modi, in a parliamentary session on Monday, lambasted the Congress party, alleging a "mistrust" in the nation's potential and denoting the opposition's lack of electoral courage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Lok Sabha on Monday, accused the Congress of perpetuating a mindset that mistrusted the country's capability, considering itself rulers and the public as inferior.

"Congress' mindset is that it has never trusted the capability of the country. It considered itself rulers and the public as someone lesser, someone smaller," PM Modi said in Lok Sabha.

Reading excerpts from Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi's past statements, Modi stated: "It means that Nehru ji thought Indians were lazy and less intelligent. Looking at the people in Congress today, it appears that Indira Ji could not accurately assess the people of the country but assessed Congress perfectly".

News agency ANI posted excerpts of the speech of Pt Nehru that PM Modi read out in the lower house. Listen to the audio here:

Responding to the debate in Lok Sabha regarding the Motion of Thanks on President's Address, Modi inferred that opposition leaders were hesitant to contest elections, indicating a prolonged stay on the opposition benches.

Expressing his observation on the opposition's disposition, Modi stated, "Every word of their speeches has confirmed my confidence and that of the country that they have resolved to stay there (in the opposition) for a long time".

Highlighting the Budget Session as an opportunity for constructive engagement, Modi criticised the opposition's failure to deliver meaningful discourse, attributing the Congress for the present state of the opposition.

Addressing the Congress's repeated strategies akin to relaunching the same product, Modi hinted at potential obsolescence, suggesting that the party might soon have to reconsider its political approach.

In a critique of the Congress's role as an opposition, Modi asserted, "The Congress got an opportunity to become a good opposition. However, they failed to fulfill their responsibility in the last ten years".
