PM Modi, Nawaz Sharif may come out with ‘Vision Document’ during SAARC summit
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif may come out with a 'Vision Document' on the sidelines of SAARC Summit to be held in November in Pakistan and institutionalise the dialogue process. It was being agreed upon to propose this to both the prime ministers in back channel talks held for two days after Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhary visited India for 'Heart of Asia' Conference and also held bilateral talks with Foreign Secretary Dr Jaishanker.
ABP News has learnt from top sources that visiting Pakistani delegation of 5 Former High Commissioners of Pakistan to India pitched for start of comprehensive bilateral dialogue announced recently in Islamabad by the two foreign ministers. Track-2 dialogue was held for two days in capital's Hyderabad House and the visiting Pakistani delegation also met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, vice-president Hamid Ansari and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Foreign Secretary Dr Jaishanker had also hosted them for dinner.
Sources have told ABP News that Indian delegation conveyed to them that India was committed to starting the dialogue process but visible action into Pathankot attack was awaited. In fact, its learnt that NSA Doval conveyed to the visiting Pakistani delegation that he was satisfied with the Pakistani investigations so far but visible action was what India was waiting for. The former Pakistan High Commissioners urged Indian side to trust the ongoing investigations of Pakistan and till then, start the dialogue process.
ABP News has learnt from top sources involved in the back channel talks that both delegations have agreed to propose to prime ministers of both the countries to come out with a 'Vision Document' in November in Islamabad when they meet for bilateral during SAARC Summit to be held in Pakistan and also institutionalize the dialogue process to ensure that talks are not derailed even in wake of any terror attack. It is to be seen what stand the two PMs take on this proposal, as and when its put before them. A 'Vision Document' may seem to be a good idea for furtherance in bilateral relations but would Prime Minister Modi agree for the same is a big if and what if India faces another terror strike before the November SAARC Summit ?
ABP News has also learnt from sources that NSA Doval in his meet with the visiting Pakistani High Commissioners conveyed India's concerns that every time India tries to take a step forward for dialogue process and normalizing relations Pakistani Army and Pakistan, terror groups have hit the country and thereby it became difficult for India to carry on with dialogue till visible action was seen to be taken from across the border.
