PM Modi Dials CMs To Review Coronavirus, Rain And Flood Situation; Assures Support

Prime Minister in a telephonic conversation with Chief Ministers talked about state-specific concerns and assured Centre's support as per requirements.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke to Chief Ministers of at least seven states - Bihar, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand - to review the Coronavirus situation that has affected lakhs of people in respective states. Prime Minister in a telephonic conversation with Chief Ministers also discussed over the heavy rain and floods in Bihar and Assam and assured his support in dealing with the flood havoc, which has claimed several lives this year.

While speaking with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal over the phone, PM Modi took stock of the contemporary situation regarding flood and expressed his concern and solidarity with people of the state. He inquired about the measures taken by the state in dealing with the flood havoc.

Further in the conversation, PM also took a stalk of Coronavirus pandemic in the state has recently recorded a drastic spike in the number of death cases due to the deadly Coronavirus infection.

PM also discussed the Baghjan gas well of PSU major Oil India Ltd which is spewing gas uncontrollably for over 50 days now. A massive fire broke out at the leaking natural gas producing well of Oil India Ltd in Assam's Tinsukia district last month on June 9. An OIL press release said that the well caught fire even while the clearing operations were on at the well site.

PM Modi earlier today spike to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and received information regarding servicemen who are found to be infected with the novel Coronavirus.

Expressing his concerns over the surge in the number of Coronavirus cases among soldiers, PM said that the state government and Army officers should coordinate and ensure proper treatment of the soldiers who have contracted COVID-19.

Discussing over heavy rain pours in the last few days, PM said that special attention should be paid to disaster management and ensured Central government's support to the state in dealing with the situation as per requirement.

Modi called Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Sunday and talked about state-specific concerns with him. According to the reports, the two over the call discuss the preventive measures taken by the state to contain the spread of COVID-19 in second worst-hit state in India.

The conversation with the CMs has come on the day when the country was just 1,000 short of touching 40,000 per day figure, and the total tally remained one day short of reaching another lakh.

With the highest single-day spike of 38,902 cases, the total Covid-19 cases in India spiked to 10,77,619. With 22,381 more cases, India would touch 11 lakh cases and given the trends of per-day rise, it is most likely to reach the grim figure by tomorrow.

Total Covid-19 positive cases stand at 10,77,618 including 3,73,379 active cases, 6,77,423 cured/discharged/migrated and 26,816 deaths, the Health Ministry has said.
