PM Modi To Visit Andhra On May 2 To Re-Launch Amaravati Development Works

This visit comes nearly a decade after Prime Minister Modi first laid the foundation stone for Amaravati on October 22, 2015 at Uddandarayunipalem.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Amaravati on May 2 to formally re-launch development works for Andhra Pradesh's capital city, the state government confirmed on Wednesday. Chief Secretary KS Vijayanand announced that the Prime Minister's visit has been finalised, though the exact timing of the programme is yet to be decided.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming on May 2 to relaunch Amaravati construction works and in this regard all arrangements are being made,” said the Chief Secretary in an official release, as per a report on PTI.

The visit marks a significant milestone as it revives capital-related infrastructure initiatives that had been on hold for several years.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various key projects in Amaravati.

Arrangements For PM Modi's Visit

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reviewed preparations in a high-level meeting held at the State Secretariat. The venue for the event will be set up near the site of the recently launched P-4 programme, located behind the Secretariat, reported IANS.

To ensure smooth execution of the mega event, the government has appointed Commissioner of Medical Health and Family Welfare, Veerapandian, as the nodal officer. He stated that arrangements are being made to accommodate nearly 5 lakh attendees.

In addition, a Cabinet sub-committee comprising Ministers Payyavula Keshav, Kollu Ravindra, Satyakumar Yadav, Nadendla Manohar, and P Narayana has been formed to oversee preparations. The committee is expected to hold a coordination meeting with officials at the Amaravati Secretariat next week.

This visit comes nearly a decade after Prime Minister Modi first laid the foundation stone for Amaravati on October 22, 2015 at Uddandarayunipalem. While the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government initiated some development works, progress stalled after the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) came to power in 2019 and shifted focus to a three-capital model.
