Big Relief For Raghav Chadha As Rajya Sabha Chairman Revokes Suspension

Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha's suspension was revoked on Monday by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on the motion moved by BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao, reported PTI. The AAP MP was suspended from the Upper House of the Parliament in August this year during the Monsoon Session of the Parliament.

After the withdrawal of his suspension, Chadha released a video message wherein he said: "On 11th August, I was suspended from the Rajya Sabha. I went to the Supreme Court for the revocation of my suspension." 

"Supreme Court took cognizance of this and now my suspension has been revoked after 115 days," he said.

"I am happy that my suspension has been roved and I want to thank the Supreme Court and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar..." the AAP MP added. 

Chadha was suspended on charges of not taking consent from five Rajya Sabha MPs before including their names in a select committee after which he filed a petition in the Supreme Court. 

In his plea, Chadha challenged that the Chairman of the House cannot order suspension of a member pending inquiry, particularly, when the Committee on Privileges is already seized of the investigation on the very same issue.

The apex court had asked the AAP MP to meet Rajay Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar and tender an unconditional apology for his alleged misconduct in the House. It had said that the apology tendered by the AAP leader will be “sympathetically” considered by the Rajya Sabha Chairperson.

The plea was heard by bench headed by CJI D.Y. Chandrachud and comprising Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.
