More than Rs 710 crore cash in black money seized by tax officials post note ban

New Delhi: In its ongoing crackdown against black money, the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate continue to seize whopping amounts of cash from different parts pf the country. Up until now, black money of over Rs 710 crore has been seized by the police. Here is a list of seizures made in both new and scrapped denomination notes, by the police in Kerala, Maharashtra, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Picture: ABP News Picture: ABP News Acting on a tip off, Navi Mumbai police last night nabbed the six from Adesh circle in Panvel, a senior police officer said. A vehicle carrying six persons was intercepted. During the checking, two of the occupants, Devram Solanki and Kumaram Choudhury, were found in possession of over Rs 35 lakh cash in Rs 2,000 notes, he said. The duo, both residents of Navi Mumbai, claimed that they run a general store and the money belongs to them, the official added. The other four, Nanaji Matkare, Raghunath Mohite,Santosh Pawar and Suryakant Kande, were carrying gold biscuits weighing 2.5 kg, he said, adding they are residents of Pune and claimed to be working for jewellery stores. Notably, the IT Department in  a release on December 20 said that post demonetisation Rs 30 cr has been seized in Maharashtra excluding Mumbai. Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh Five persons have been arrested here and over 700 kg of ganja along with around Rs 9 lakh in cash were seized from them, police said on Saturday. Picture: ABP News Picture: ABP News An ambulance was intercepted at Chaubeypur Police Station area by the Special Task Force (STF). During the checking, 737 kg of ganja, in 134 packets, worth around Rs one crore in domestic market was recovered from the vehicle, police's Special Task Force Inspector S K Singh said. Rs 9.42 lakh in cash, of which nearly Rs 8.26 lakh was in new currency notes was also seized from the vehicle, the officer said. The five arrested have been identified as Triveni Gupta, Srinath Yadav, Bunty Gupta all from Azamgarh, and Jakir Hussain and Altaf Hussain both native of Assam, he said. They used to transport ganja from Assam to Uttar Pradesh and other states in the vehicle, Singh said. Kurukshetra, Haryana Rs 15.68 lakh cash was seized from two luxury cars from Kurukshetra area in Haryana of which nearly Rs 13.68 lakh was in new currency notes. Picture: ABP News Picture: ABP News The two persons who have been arrested in this case are Vishesh Garg and Deepak Garg, both being businessmen. This is the third seizure made by Kurukshetra Police within a span of 7 days. Kannur, Kerala Unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 51.86 lakh, almost all of them in Rs 2,000 denomination, was today seized by Kerala Excise officials from two passengers of a bus coming from Bengaluru at nearby Irrity, in the second major haul of currency in the last three days in the state. They found Rs 51.80 lakh in Rs 2,000 notes and Rs 100 notes for Rs 6,300 in the bags of Ranjith Salangi (24) and Rahul Adhik alias Rahul Ghatoo (22). The duo, in their early 20s and hailing from Maharashtra, were found carrying the cash without any supporting documents after which they were detained. The haul came just two days after police seized Rs 39.98 lakh in Rs 2,000 denomination at Tirur area in Malapuram district. Excise officials said today's seizure was made when a special Excise squad, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus heading to nearby Payyanur around 3.30 AM. They were taken into custody and would be questioned by Income Tax officials here. Busting a currency exchange racket involving Rs 2,000 notes, police had on Friday seized Rs three lakh from Shoukath Ali, already facing a hawala case, and, based on information provided by him, recovered Rs 36.98 lakh from the residence of a businessman. The men who have been arrested are Bannu, Motilal Yadav, Tinku and Pavan Parthav. Police have also recovered the a printing machine to print fake notes and a cutting machine from the accused. Conclusion: Raids are being conducted by the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate all over the country ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a sudden address to the nation, in an attempt to fight the menace of black money, announced the demonetization of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes.
