Now know Delhi better with Metro's 'Heritage Walk'
Delhi Metro is beginning a month-long 'Heritage Walk' as a pilot project on Saturday. Starting from different Metro stations in the Old Delhi area, this project will include historical walks led by trained guides .
New Delhi Come Saturday, a month-long 'Heritage Walk' will be kick-started in Delhi. The Delhi Metro in collaboration with Delhi Walks, has taken the step to give people a taste of the rich history of Delhi.
'Delhi Walks' is an entity with expertise in conducting historical walks. The entire programme of heritage walk is a pilot project with eight walks included in it. The programme which will roll out on the ground from Saturday, will cost Rs.500 for each walk.
Starting from various Metro stations in the Old Delhi area, the walks will be led by trained guides who will take people on an enriching cultural walk. These walks will cover several historical locations, complete with associated stories.
According to a statement from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the inaugural walk will be titled 'An Empire's Tale through the Blooming Red'. As part of this pilot project, a total of eight such walks with different themes will be arranged on all weekends of the month of August; IANS reported.
"Masjid-e-Jahanuma", "Sair-o-Shahjahanabad", and the "The Tales of the Traders" are the other topics which will be covered during the walks. The project may be carried further depending on the feedback of the participants, it said.
The DMRC started a "Heritage Corridor" on May 28 by extending the Violet Line (starting from Escorts Mujesar) further beyond the ITO station. The stretch between ITO and Kashmere Gate is known as Heritage Corridor for being situated along several monuments and ruins of historical importance.
