President Kovind, VP Venkaiah Naidu, Other Leaders Pay Tribute To 26/11 Terror Attack Martyrs

In one of the deadliest terror attacks in the country's history, 166 people, including security personnel and foreigners, were killed and over 300 injured when 10 heavily-armed terrorists from Pakistan created mayhem in Mumbai on November 26, 2008.

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and several other leaders on Tuesday paid tributes to security personnel killed during the Mumbai terror attacks. In one of the deadliest terror attacks in the country's history, 166 people, including security personnel and foreigners, were killed and over 300 injured when 10 heavily-armed terrorists from Pakistan created mayhem in Mumbai on November 26, 2008. "On the 11th anniversary of the Mumbai terror attacks, we remember everyone who lost their lives and mourn with their families. A grateful nation salutes the security personnel who made the supreme sacrifice. We remain firm in our resolve to defeat all forms of terrorism," President tweeted. "I salute the bravery and devotion of our security personnel who laid down their lives to protect the motherland. The nation shall forever remain grateful," Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said. Mumbai had come to a standstill on this day 11 years ago when 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists who came to Mumbai via sea route from Pakistan carried out a series of coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across the city. Attacks took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station, Cama Hospital, Nariman House business and residential complex, Leopold Cafe, Taj Hotel and Tower and the Oberoi-Trident Hotel. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari pay tribute at Police Memorial at Marine Drive on 11th anniversary of 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack, today. Fadnavis attended the wreath-laying ceremony held at the police memorial site in Marine Lines area of South Mumbai in the morning to mark the 11th anniversary of the ghastly terror strike. Watch | Mumbai: Fadnavis and Governor pay tribute on 11th anniversary of 26/11 Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta, Director General of Police Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve, other senior police officials and family members of the martyrs were present on the occasion. Barve on Monday said the city police is fully equipped to handle situations like the 26/11 terror attack, with personnel trained to combat urban terrorism making it the "strongest force in the country". The city's streets and other land assets are being secured by highly trained personnel, including commandos, as well as sophisticated weaponry and armoured combat vehicles.
