Mumbai-Bhubaneswar LTT Express Derails In Cuttack Due To Dense Fog; 40 Injured

Mumbai-Bhubaneswar LTT Express Derails: At least 40 people are reported to be injured in the mishap, out of which at least 5 have been reported critical.

New Delhi: The Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Lokmanya Tilak Express derailed near Cuttack Nirgundi station, on Thursday morning, due to dense fog. At least 40 people are reported to be injured in the mishap, out of which at least 5 have been reported critical. The accident took place between Salagaon and  Nergundi after the 12879  LTT Express rammed into a goods train due to very low visibility because of dense fog.  The train hit the guard van of a goods train near Salagaon at about 7am. The injured are being shifted to S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Fire personnel and ambulance have arrived at the spot of the accident and rescue operation has been initiated. East Coast Railway has issued helpline number - 1072 for information on the accident and injured passengers, apart from rescue and relief operations. As per officials 5 coaches have derailed, but sources state that 8 coaches have come off the track. Five have been entirely derailed while three have suffered minor displacement.
