Need To Have Educated PM, Modi Doesn't Understand Science: Manish Sisodia Wades Into Degree Row

Jailed former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia has written a letter to the country after CM Arvind Kejriwal raised several questions about PM Narendra Modi's education.

Jailed former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia has written a letter to the country from prison over the controversy pertaining to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degrees. The Prime Minister being less educated is very dangerous for the country, he wrote in his hand-written letter, shared by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Twitter who also wrote that "Modi ji does not understand science." "Modi ji does not understand the importance of education," he alleged. The former education minister claimed that 60,000 schools have been closed in the country in the last few years.

"It is necessary to have an educated Prime Minister for India's progress," he wrote.

"When the world is talking about Artificial Intelligence, it disheartens me to see the Prime Minister say that we can make tea and food from the polluted gas coming out of dirty drains... When the Prime Minister talks about how radars will not be able to detect jets in cloudy weather, he becomes a laughingstock for the whole world. Students in schools and colleges make fun of him," Sisodia stated.

"Such statements are dangerous for the country, the entire world gets to know that India's Prime Minister is less educated and he does not have basic knowledge of science."

He further remarked if PM Modi realises what he is signing on when he signs important treaties with world leaders.

"I watched a video of the Prime Minister where he was proudly talking about how he isn't very educated. He only did basic schooling in his village. Is being uneducated or less educated, a matter of pride? A country where the Prime Minister is not well-educated will not have good education for the children of common citizens," he remarked.

Claiming that 60,000 government schools have been closed in the country in the last few years, Sisodia wrote: "This shows education is not a priority for the government."

"When hiring a manager for a small company, people seek an educated candidate. Should the country's biggest manager not be an educated person?" the former Delhi education minister asked.

AAP Vs BJP On PM Modi's Degree

These remarks echo Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's comments when he raised several questions about PM Modi's education. In a presser last week, CM Kejriwal said: "There are several comments that PM Modi has made and which come as a surprise to countrymen. Once he said one can make tea on the gas coming out of drains and on other occasions- he said that a plane can be saved from radar detection if it stays behind clouds."

Kejriwal further said that the Prime Minister was talking about a mathematical formula in Canada that he couldn't explain and the citizens of India felt embarrassed due to it.

Speaking on the concern of climate change, the CM said, "Once PM Modi was telling children that climate change is nothing. If the PM will say so, how will we be able to act on it? I could see children in the event grinning silently over his statement."

He raised the questions a day after the Gujarat High Court ruled that the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) need not furnish the degree and post-graduate degree certificate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Court also imposed fine of Rs 25,000 on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal who had sought the details.

In response to the Delhi Chief Minister's presser, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) put up posters outside its Delhi office. The posters read "degree to bahana hai, Kejriwal ko bhrashtachar se nazar hatana hai (degree is only an excuse, Kerjiwal is trying to divert attention from corruption)".
