Karnataka: Amit Shah To Begin BJP's Poll Campaign Today With Roadshow In Devanahalli

Amit Shah will kick off the Bharatiya Janata Party's campaign in Karnataka ahead of the upcoming assembly elections on April 21 with a three-day tour of the state.

Union home minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah will arrive in Karnataka's capital city Bengaluru on Friday (April 21) for a two-day visit to assess the party's preparations for the May 10 Assembly elections in the state. This will be his first visit to the state since the poll schedule was announced. On Friday afternoon, he will hold a roadshow in Devanahalli town, the birthplace of 18th-century Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan, in the Bengaluru Rural district.

Shah will meet with senior party officials in the evening to discuss poll preparations, news agency PTI reported citing party sources.

He is scheduled to attend an event organised by a private news channel on Saturday before flying back to Delhi.

In Devanahalli, the BJP leader will campaign for Pilla Munishamappa, who is running against incumbent JD(S) MLA L N Narayanaswamy and Congress candidate K H Muniyappa, a former Union minister and seven-time MP.

Muniyappa, who was defeated in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, is running for the first time in the Assembly elections.

In light of Amit Shah's visit to the city on Friday, the Bengaluru Traffic Police issued an advisory. Vehicle movement on some roads will be restricted, and alternate routes have been planned for the public.

Today, traffic restrictions will be in effect from 3 pm to 7 pm.

The notification was shared on Twitter by the Bengaluru Traffic Police. "In view of VIP movement we request the public to avoid the following roads/junctions and use alternative routes (sic)," they tweeted.

The battle in the 2018 Assembly election was primarily between Narayanswamy (86,966 votes) and Venkataswamy (69,956) of Congress. K Nagesh, the BJP candidate, came in third place with 9,820 votes.

The state will vote on May 10, and the results will be released on May 13.
