BMC polls: Cong seeks assurance from BJP & Sena, says 'Give commitment of not joining hands'

Mumbai: Congress on Suday challenged BJP and Shiv Sena to give a solemn commitment to Mumbaikars of not joining hands post the February 21 election to the city's civic body. "BJP and Shiv Sena are issuing 'talaq' in the morning, but they are sure to get married again in the evening," Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters here. "Give a solemn commitment to Mumbaikars of not joining hands post-elections to grab power and share spoils in the BMC," he added. BJP and Shiv Sena are going solo in the BMC polls. Hitting out at Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' billboard campaign 'It is my word', Surjewala said "his words are only false promises". "In 2015-16, why did the BJP allocate only Rs 3,380 crore for providing facilities in Mumbai when the Congress, several years ago in 2010-2011, had allocated Rs 6,143 crore?," he asked. "Why audits of over Rs 1 lakh crore are still pending in the BMC," the spokesperson questioned. He also slammed the Maharashtra government for "failing to appoint a Lokayukta despite over 4,500 pending cases".
