New Delhi: In an endeavor to “maintain public safety and averting public emergency” under Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules 2017, the Union Home Ministry has ordered suspension of internet at Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri borders as thousands head towards the three sites where the farmers have been protesting against the three farm laws.

The internet services will remain suspended till 11 pm of January 31.

With the situation at the three protesting sites remaining tense, the Haryana Government earlier suspended mobile internet and SMS services in 14 districts.

Earlier on Friday, a Delhi Police personnel was injured in stone pelting during protests at the Singhu border. This as over 100 people got past the security barricades and clashed with the farmers, who have been demanding a complete repeal of the three farm laws.

The farmers, who have been camping at Delhi’s borders since November 25 last year, fear the three farm laws would lead to abolishment of the MSP besides giving an upper hand to the corporates.

In the wake of the ongoing protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the government is approaching the issue of farm laws with an open mind.

Addressing the floor leaders of various political parties at the all-party meeting convened by the government for the smooth conduct of the Budget Session, Prime Minister also said Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar is just a phone call away for the protesting farmers and the same has been conveyed to their leaders during the Centre’s dialogues held earlier this month.

The opposition parties have taken the ruling dispensation to task for remaining indifferent to the farmers’ demands and sought a repeal of the three laws.
