Explosion In Illegal Firecracker Unit In Madhya Pradesh Leaves Two Dead, Eight Injured

New Delhi: An explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing business in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district on Tuesday killed a lady and her daughter and wounded eight others, according to authorities, news agency PTI reported.

The incident occurred at lunchtime in Badarwas town, which is 55 kilometres from the district headquarters.

According to Rakesh Sharma, the in-charge of the Badarwas police station, firecrackers were being made illegally on the bottom floor of a two-story structure owned by Mohammed Hussain Ansari.

"The explosion was very powerful and Tabassum Khan (25) and her daughter Umera (11) were killed on the spot while eight others were injured," Sharma was quoted by PTI in its report.

The injured, who included Ansari's family members and several staff, were being treated at the Shivpuri Medical College's hospital, he added.

According to the police officer, Ansari had a licence to operate a firecracker unit in the hamlet of Sumela, but he was doing so unlawfully in a residential neighbourhood in Badarwas.

"A forensic investigation team has reached the spot for ascertaining the cause of the explosion and probe is on," Sharma said.
