Doranda Treasury Case: Court To Pronounce Quantum Of Punishment On Lalu Yadav, 37 Other Convicts Today
The quantum of punishment in the Doranda treasury scam will be pronounced through video conferencing today.
New Delhi: A special CBI court in Ranchi will pronounce the quantum of punishment on Rashtriya Janata Dal Chief (RJD) Lalu Prasad Yadav and 37 other convicts in the Doranda treasury case today.
The quantum of punishment in the fodder scam will be pronounced at 12:00 pm through video conferencing.
On February 15, Judge S K Shashi had pronounced 38 accused including former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad guilty of the crime and fixed February 21 as the date for sentencing.
According to special prosecutor B M P Singh, the court on Saturday directed all 38 of the 41 accused convicted in the fodder scam to appear before the court on Monday through video conferencing. Arrest warrant was also issued against three convicts for not appearing in the court on February 15.
Singh also said that thirty-five convicts are lodged in Birsa Munda Jail, while three convicts, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, are admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on poor health grounds.
Birsa Munda Jail Superintendent Hamid Akhtar said that laptops have been arranged for three convicts admitted in RIMS to appear before the court.
Lalu Prasad Yadav has been convicted under sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471 of the Indian penal Code (IPC), along with section 120B related to conspiracy and section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, said Singh.
The RJD chief could be awarded seven years of imprisonment under various sections, Singh further added.
The Doranda treasury scam is related to the illegal withdrawal of Rs 139.35 crore from Doranda Treasury, and is considered as the biggest fodder scam in the country.
