Delhi Govt Sends Termination Notice To 90 Anganwadi Workers Who Protested Over Honorarium

It may be noted that since January 31, Anganwadi workers and helpers were protesting for an increase in their honorarium.

New Delhi: The Delhi government sent termination notices to 90 Anganwadi workers who protested in Delhi for increasing the honorarium. The Delhi State Anganwadi Workers and Sahayika Sangh say that they will go to the Delhi High Court against these notices.

The Delhi government issued a decree for Anganwadi workers who have been protesting in the capital for the last two days. According to the Times of India report, the Delhi government has sent termination letters to more than 90 Anganwadi workers and helpers who actively participated in the protest.

Regarding these letters, the Delhi State Anganwadi Workers and Helpers' Association said that they expect that more notices will come soon. However, they will go to the Delhi High Court against the orders. The union alleged that after the imposition of the “repressive” Essential Service Maintenance Act (ESMA) by the lieutenant governor against the strike, the Delhi government is now “repressing” the Anganwadi workers as well.

According to reports, the Anganwadi workers were returning to work even after the implementation of ESMA. The Women Child Development Department has dismissed 90 Anganwadi workers and helpers who participated in the agitation from service with immediate effect. Not only this, but the Women Child Development Department is also pressurizing the Anganwadi workers who participated in the protest to write an apology letter.

It may be noted that since January 31, Anganwadi workers and helpers were protesting for an increase in their honorarium. They said that in this inflation, they are getting a lesser honorarium than a daily wage labourer, their demand was that the honorarium of Anganwadi workers should be at least Rs 25,000 and that of helpers should be Rs 20,000.
