Cyclone Remal Aftermath: Bengal, Odisha Coasts To Witness 'Very Rough' Sea Condition, Heavy Rains In Northeast

Cyclone Remal Aftermath: Between May 26 and 27, the sea conditions off the coast of West Bengal and Odisha may become rough to very rough with high waves and strong winds.

A day after severe cyclonic storm 'Remal' made landfall with winds gusting up to 135 kilometres per hour, the coastal areas of West Bengal and northeastern states in India will witness its aftermath for the upcoming days in the form of thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Between May 26 and 27, the sea conditions off the coast of West Bengal and Odisha may become rough to very rough with high waves and strong winds.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Gangetic West Bengal is very likely to receive isolated heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy falls (>204.4 mm) on Monday. In view of this, the weather department has also issued a red alert in the region.

Weather Forecast For Today

Moderate rain and thunderstorms with some heavy to very heavy rainfall are expected in Gangetic West Bengal, southern Bangladesh, the northern coast of Odisha, and parts of Tripura.

Light to moderate rain with some heavy rainfall is possible in Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Light to moderate rainfall is possible in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, eastern parts of Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Light rain is possible in southern Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Konkan and Goa, parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.

The onset of southwesterly winds may lead to a 2 to 3-degree drop in maximum temperatures in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, heatwave conditions may develop in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.

IMD Sounds Red & Orange Alert In Northeast India

An orange alert has been issued for sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim as IMD has forecast isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in these regions (115.5-204.4 mm) on May 27-28.

On May 27 and May 29-30, Arunachal Pradesh is also very likely to get isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm).

Besides this, the northeastern state will very liekly receive heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy falls (>204.4 mm) on May 28, IMD said, issuing an orange alert.

Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura are also very likely to get isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) on May 28, IMD said. An orange alert has also been sounded for heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy falls (>204.4 mm) on May 27 in these states.

As per IMD's forecast, Assam and Meghalaya are very likely to get isolated heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy falls (>204.4 mm) on May 27 and 28 and heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) on May 29. A red alert has been sounded by IMD in these states.
