KTR Sidelines Kavitha? Eashwar Named BRS' Telangana Cold Mining Union In-Charge

BRS appointed Koppula Eashwar as TBGKS in-charge, seemingly sidelining K. Kavitha, who held an honorary president role and increased engagement with miners.

In a major shift within Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS), the influential coal miners’ union affiliated with Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the party has appointed senior leader and former minister Koppula Eashwar as its new in-charge. The decision, made during a high-level meeting chaired by BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) at Telangana Bhavan, is being widely viewed as a move to edge out his sister, MLC K Kavitha, from a position of influence within the union.

Kavitha's Influence In Union

Kavitha has long held the honorary president role in TBGKS and had recently ramped up her engagement with coal workers through a parallel initiative titled Singareni Jagruthi, aimed at addressing worker welfare issues, as per a report on NDTV.

However, her increased visibility in the coal belt appears to have triggered internal friction within the party. Party insiders suggest that Eashwar’s appointment is strategically aimed at curbing her outreach and reasserting BRS’s direct control over the miners’ union.

Who Is Eshwar & What's Next For TBGKS?

A founding member of TBGKS and a former coal miner himself, Eashwar is considered a trusted figure among the Singareni workforce. His grassroots connect and credibility in the region are expected to bolster the party’s presence in the coal belt, particularly as murmurs of a widening rift between KTR and Kavitha continue to circulate, reported Deccan Chronicle.

According to leaders, some union members had grown hesitant to associate with Kavitha’s initiatives, reportedly fearing political backlash due to her increasingly distant rapport with the BRS leadership. By bringing Eashwar back to the fore, the party hopes to unify its ranks and avoid factionalism ahead of key political developments.

Following the leadership change, KTR instructed TBGKS president Miryala Raji Reddy to collaborate with local BRS leaders to galvanize support among coal workers. A large-scale mobilisation drive is said to be in the works, with a major event expected soon under Eashwar’s stewardship.
