'If You Consume Wrong Thing, This Situation Will Occur': Nitish Kumar On Bihar Liquor Deaths

Earlier in the day, as many as 31 people died after consuming poisonous liquor in Gopalganj and Bettiah districts of Bihar on the occasion of Diwali.

Patna: Hours after 31 people lost their lives due to drinking spurious liquor in two districts of Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday evening said that it is very important to start a campaign once again to tell people that consumption of alcohol is bad and a liquor ban is in effect in the state.

While speaking to reporters, Kumar also said that action will be taken against all those who prepare spurious liquor in the state and it will be done soon. He also expressed the need for a massive campaign against the consumption of alcohol.

Earlier in the day, as many as 31 people died after consuming poisonous liquor in Gopalganj and Bettiah districts of Bihar on the occasion of Diwali.

While 20 people have died in Gopalganj, 11 people have lost their lives in Bettiah so far. The Chief Minister has said that his government will review the incident after the festival.

Bihar is all prepared to host a series of festivals including Bhai Dooj, Govardhan Puja and most importantly Chhath Puja.

"I have been saying again and again that if you consume a wrong thing, this situation will occur. I keep talking to the officers, but after the festival, we will have a detailed review," Nitish Kumar said while speaking to reporters.

Bihar Police have arrested at least 24 people and detained five in both cases combined apart from suspensions of four cops - two from each district.

RJD Blames Bihar Govt For The Incident

Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish and alleged that a liquor syndicate is running in Bihar in which the state government is also involved.

Even RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav also slammed Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government claiming that more than 50 people have died in the state after consuming spurious liquor in the last three days.

Even RJD leader Manoj Jha claimed that there is a liquor syndicate and alcohol ban is just a drama.

"This is a liquor syndicate. Which has been run from the villages to the state capital. The liquor ban is just a drama. There are officials and bureaucrats in the system who are running this liquor syndicate" ANI quoted him as saying.
