Ayodhya: Ram Temple Site Showcased, To Open For Devotees Before Lok Sabha Polls

The foundation stone of the temple was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier on August 5, 2020, and construction is now on in full swing.

Ayodhya: The Ram Janmabhoomi Trust for the first time on Thursday showcased the site of the Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya city where phase 1 of the construction is almost complete.

The foundation stone of the temple was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier on August 5, 2020, and construction is now on in full swing.

The Ram Janmabhoomi Trust officials said the construction will meet the deadline, adding the temple will be open for the devotees just before the 2024 general elections.

48 layers of concrete were filled after excavation to support the structure that will come up within the temple complex.

The temple complex, which will include a pilgrim facilitation centre, museum, auditorium, a place for rituals, an administrative building and rooms for priests, is being built by Larsen & Toubro.

Tata Consulting Engineers has been signed on as the project management consultant.

The Supreme Court had in a landmark judgement earlier in November 2019 brought the curtains down on the Ayodhya land dispute.

The verdict by a five-judge bench gave Hindus the 2.77 acres disputed land for construction of the Ram Temple and ordered that the Muslims be given a five-acre land at a prominent location to build a mosque in the holy city.

The Central government was also ordered to set up a trust to build the temple and manage the site.

The Babri mosque in Ayodhya was demolished on December 6, 1992 by ‘karsevaks’, who claimed that an ancient Ram temple stood at the same site.
