CPI-M Leader Sitaram Yechury's Son Passes Away Due To Corona; Yechury Appreciates 'Those Who Gave Hope'

Ashish Yechury was admitted to Holy Family hospital two weeks ago and was later shifted to Gurgaon. 

New Delhi: Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury's elder son, Ashish Yechury passes away due to COVID-19 in Gurgaon's Medanta Hospital early morning on Thursday.

He was admitted to Holy Family hospital two weeks ago and was later shifted to Gurgaon.

According to media report, 35 year-old Ashish Yechury was a senior editor with a leading newspaper. 

Those close to the family told India Today, that 34-year-old Ashish Yechury had tested positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago and was admitted to Gurugram's Medanta Hospital. He had recently been recovering well from the disease, however, succumbed to the disease at 5.30 am on Thursday. He is survived by his wife Swati.

Leaders offer condolences

The CPI(M) issued a statement saying, "The Polit Bureau conveys it deepest condolences to Sitaram and Indrani, his wife Swati, his sister Akhila and all other members of the bereaved family". TMC MP Derek O'Brien also offered his condolences.
