‘He Sets the Target, I Try To Achieve It’: Shah On Dynamic With PM Modi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that there wasn’t any rift with PM Modi, adding they share the same goals, ideology, and mutual understanding.

Crushing any rumours, Union Home Minister Amit Shah clarified that there was no difference in opinion between him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the two are working towards the same objectives.

Shah was speaking at the Rising Bharat Summit 2025 when he was asked about the working relationship between the two leaders and how they complement each other. He said that the two contribute to each other, and he said, “sets the target, I try to achieve it. He helps us improve”, according to News18.

He said that the two have worked together for a long time and knew each other’s method of working, nature and thought process. He said that they don’t have any disagreements and that they work according to their ideology.

“He also thinks of his ideology, the country and the Constitution, and I do the same, so there’s no question of difference of opinion," he added as per the report.

Personal History

When asked about his personal history and his childhood nickname ‘Poonam’, the Home Minister explained that there’s no mystery behind it—he was born on Sharad Poonam (Sharad Purnima).

“My aunt had made a wish that I’ll be named when I turn five years old, so because I was born on the day of Sharad Poonam, I was known as ‘Poonam’. There’s no mystery behind this, and it’s how kids are named in villages," he said, according to News18.

During the Summit, he was asked about what he thought about his family trying to send him to the United States when he was 11 years old. He said that he would not go anywhere, “I won’t leave India and will fight and live here.”

He spoke about his love for books and classical music, he said that during his free time, he said that he has 8,000 books which he hasn’t read. He also said he was interested in classical music, so he would listen to music while he read.
