After 16-day price hike, petrol and diesel price cut by just 1 paisa a litre

Petrol Price: Previously, the prices were said to be cut down by 60 paise. Indian Oil later informed that it was a typing mistake.

NEW DELHI:  Indian Oil Corp (IOC) has blamed a "clerical error" for a typo that earlier showed the slashing of fuel prices by 60 paise. It was revised to just 1 paisa a litre each for petrol and diesel. State-owned oil companies this morning announced reduction in petrol price by 60 paise to Rs 77.83 a litre and diesel by 56 paise to Rs 68.75 in Delhi. "The reduction was supposed to be 1 paisa but due to a clerical error the price prevalent on May 25 was communicated as today's price," a senior official of Indian Oil Corp (IOC), the nation's largest fuel retailer, explained to news agency PTI. Petrol in Delhi now costs Rs 78.42 per litre and diesel Rs 69.30. The revised diesel prices in metropolitan cities are- Delhi 69.30 Kolkata 71.85 Mumbai 73.78 Chennai 73.17 The revised petrol prices in metropolitan cities are- Delhi 78.42 Kolkata 81.05 Mumbai 86.23 Chennai 81.42 Since the Karnataka election, the straight fuel price hike has caused inconvenience and disappointment among the general public for the last 16th days. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan earlier assured the public that the government will soon take out a solution to tackle the situation. He had further pointed out that less production of oil in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and hike in crude oil price in the international market are some of the factors affecting the fuel price.
