Tripura: 24-Hour Weekend Covid Curfew Imposed After 90 Test Positive For Delta Plus Variant
Tripura Curfew News: About 151 samples were sent to a laboratory for genome sequencing in West Bengal, 90 returned positive for the highly transmissible Delta plus variant of the coronavirus.
Agartala: A 24-hour weekend curfew which will be like a total lockdown is to be imposed across the state of Tripura after over 90 cases of the Delta Plus variant were reported. The weekend curfew will start on Saturday from 12 PM to Monday at 6 AM is a move to break the chain.
This is the first reported case of the deadly and highly infectious variant of COVID-19 in the northeast.
About 151 samples were sent to a laboratory for genome sequencing in West Bengal, 90 returned positive for the highly transmissible Delta plus variant of the coronavirus.
"Tripura had sent 151 RT-PCR samples for genome sequencing in West Bengal," said Dr Deep Debbarma, a Covid-19 nodal officer in Tripura, on Friday. "Of these, more than 90 samples were found to be Delta plus variants," he said, adding, "It is a matter of concern."

As the deadly Delta variant was the key driver of the second wave, it is said that the Delta Plus variant could be the reason for a third wave.
The news comes after two cases of the Delta plus strain were found in Deoria and Gorakhpur, a patient has tested positive to the Kappa strain of Covid-19 in Sant Kabir Nagar. The patient, a 66-year-old man died. The strain was detected during the genome sequencing exercise. Like Delta plus, Kappa too has been declared as a variant of concern.
