Petrol Prices Inch Closer To Rs 100 In Delhi, Kolkata, Check Latest Rates Here

Petrol price in Delhi has witnessed 35 paise rise and now stands at Rs 99.86 per litre while Diesel is up 36 paise and being sold at Rs 89.36 per litre on Monday

New Delhi: There is a little respite for oil consumers as fuel prices continue to touch record high in several states across the country. Petrol prices witnessed a hike for a consecutive second day on Monday taking the fuel prices in Delhi and Kolkata to nearly Rs 100. Earlier metro cities including Mumbai and Chennai had already seen the state breaching psychological three digit number.  

On Sunday, petrol prices were raised  by 35 paise and 18 paise respectively in the national capital on Sunday.

Petrol price in Delhi has witnessed 35 paise rise and stands at Rs 99.86 per litre while Diesel is up 36 paise and being sold at Rs 89.36 per litre on Monday. Fuel prices have witnessed a hike of 34 times since May 4 and thrice in July.

In Mumbai, the cost of fuel remains the highest among all metro cities. Petrol is being sold at a staggering Rs 105.92 per litre while Diesel is retailed at Rs 96.91 per litre. The difference in prices among cities is due to various factors including local VAT in different cities. Petrol and diesel prices are fixed on the basis of freight charges, local taxes, and VAT. Petrol has crossed a Rs 100 mark in several states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Ladakh, and some cities of Bihar and Punjab.

Rates of petrol and diesel are daily revised by oil companies based on the average price of benchmark fuel in the international market in the preceding 15 days, and foreign exchange rates. 

Crude oil price came down on Monday morning after gaining for four consecutive days. Brent crude traded at $75.77 per barrel. Meanwhile, U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures were at $74.86 a barrel, according to Reuters.
