Covid Situation Grim In Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Assam: SC Warns Centre & States, Seeks Report On Steps To Tackle
A three-judge Supreme Court bench pulled up the governments of Gujarat and Delhi for the worsening COVID-19 situation. The apex court asked central and state governments to file affidavits on steps taken so far by them.
The Supreme Court of India on Monday took note of worsening Coronavirus situation across several states and warned the respective governments to be prepared before things turn worst. A three-judge bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan asked Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Assam state governments to file status reports on the current situation in the respective states. Expressing concern over the resurgence of Covid-19 wave, the apex court said all states must prepare for coming months, and asked the central as well as the state governments to file affidavits on the steps taken so far by them.
The bench which also comprises Justices R S Reddy and M R Shah pulled up the governments of Gujarat and Delhi for the worsening COVID-19 situation there. The court criticised the Gujarat government for allowing weddings and gatherings despite the rising COVID-19 cases.
"Things have worsened in Delhi especially in November. You file a status report on what steps have been taken."
"Situation is going out of control. There is spike in cases and this is only November. Prepare for the worst in December. You have to take step," the court said, while hearing the lawyers appearing for Maharashtra and Gujarat.

According to the reports, the matter for hearing has been posted for Friday. With 44,059 new Covid-19 infections, India's total cases rise to 91,39,866. With 511 new deaths, toll mounts to 1,33,738. Total active cases at 4,43,486. Total discharged cases at 85,62,642 with 41,024 new discharges in last 24 hrs.
