Breaking News HIGHLIGHTS, 28 August, 2021: US military forces launched an airstrike in Nangahar Province of Afghanistan against ISIS-K.
"The unmanned airstrike occurred in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we killed the target," said Captain Bill Urban of the Central Command, reports AFP.
"We know of no civilian casualties," he added in a statement announcing the first reported US strike since the attack.
On, Thursday, U.S. military commanders vowed to hunt down the leaders of the Islamic State after a suicide bomb attack on Kabul airport, pledging to exact revenge on the long-time U.S. adversary for the deaths of dozens of Afghans and U.S. troops.
"We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay," U.S. President Joe Biden said in emotional remarks at the White House, promising that the group's actions would not stop a mass evacuation airlift.
India on Friday administered 1,00,64,032 vaccine doses under its Nationwide Vaccination drive. This is the highest ever vaccination achieved in a single day since the start of the vaccination drive. In another significant achievement, India’s Covid 19 vaccination coverage crossed 62 crore (62,09,43,580) landmark milestone as per the 7 pm provisional report today.
Meanwhile, Kerala recorded 30,000 plus daily infections for the third consecutive day on Friday with 32,801 new cases in the past 24 hours. With 179 new fatalities, the death toll in the state mounted to 20,313. Test positivity rate was recorded at 19.22 per cent.

US Evacuates Over 111,900 People From Afghanistan Since Aug 14, Says White House
The US has evacuated and facilitated the shifting of approximately 111,900 people from the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul since August 14, the White House has said.
The US evacuated approximately 6,800 people in the time period between August 27 at 3:00 AM EDT and August 28 at 3:00 AM EDT, following the deadly suicide attack near the Kabul airport on Thursday, it said.
