PM Modi To Address 90th Interpol General Assembly
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 90th Interpol General Assembly held at Pragati Maidan in the capital Delhi on Tuesday, a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said as reported by PTI.
Representatives of 195 countries will participate in this General Assembly. The PMO said that these representatives include ministers of member countries, police chiefs, central bureau chiefs and senior police officers. The General Assembly is the highest governing body of Interpol and meets once a year.
In this meeting, the functioning of Interpol is reviewed and important decisions are also taken. Various aspects of financial crimes and corruption will be discussed in the meeting.
The PMO said that the Interpol General Assembly meeting is being held in India after a gap of 25 years. The last time this General Assembly was held in India was in 1997. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of India's independence, a special opportunity has been given to organize this year's General Assembly in New Delhi.
3-Day India Tour Of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres Begins On Tuesday
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will be on a three-day visit to India starting Tuesday, during which he will pay tributes to the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai, besides holding talks with his Indian interlocutors.
It will be the first visit of Guterres to India since his second term in office commenced in January. He had earlier visited the country in October 2018 during his first term at the top office.
The UN secretary general will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an event relating to the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) in Gujarat's Kevadiya on October 20.
His visit to the country comes more than a week before the UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee holds two-day deliberations in India.
"Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, will be on an official visit to India from October 18-20," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
