Anwarul Azim Murder: Flesh Found In Kolkata Apartment's Sewerage, Cops Fish For Body Parts In Canal Too

Anwarul Azim murder: Flesh and hair have been found in the sewerage of the Kolkata flat where the Bangladeshi MP was allegedly killed and chopped up.

Fresh evidence of the alleged butchery of Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim's corpse has come to the fore. The Bangladesh Detective Department has said that during an inspection of the sewerage of the New Town flat in Kolkata, they found pieces of flesh and hair in the pipes and septic tank. These are suspected to be the remains of deceased Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim.

Bangladesh Detective Department chief Harun-ya-Rashid said, "...We have opened the sewerage and septic tank of that duplex flat [murder spot at Sanjeeva Gardens housing society] with the help of the West Bengal CID. We found pieces of flesh there. These will be sent for forensic examination and DNA tests and only after that, something concrete can be said about the nature of the flesh and reveal the identity of the person."

According to CID sources, the flesh and hair samples were sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) to find out if they belonged to the three-time Bangladeshi MP from PM Sheikh Hasina's Awami League. The search for the body parts of the MP began Tuesday morning based on the prime accused's statement said Harun-ya-Rashid.

In addition to the Sanjeeva Gardens operations, the outlet of the society's sewage at the Kestpur canal is also being searched.

Rashid further said, "We have cross-examined the information that we received during the joint investigation by the two countries about the prime suspect Jahid Hawladar in the Anwarul Azim murder case. The information pertains to the car they used, their contacts, etc. We are also perusing the CCTV footage that we recovered earlier."

Meanwhile, according to CID sources, lookout notices have been issued against four persons.

Anwarul Azim 'Anar' went missing two days after his arrival in India on May 12. He was later revealed to have been murdered. Hawladar purportedly "confessed" to the police that he was brought from Mumbai to skin the Bangladeshi MP's corpse and chop up the corpse for disposal.

The mastermind of this incident is an American citizen from Bangladesh Akhtaruzzaman, who is believed to be a childhood friend of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim. A red corner notice will be issued against Akhtaruzzaman and three others — Faizal, Siyan, and Mustafizur. The other three were allegedly tasked with disposing of Anwarul Azim's skull in the local waste-fed fisheries of Kolkata called 'bheris'.
