Anwarul Azim Murder: Arrested Butcher Reveals Grisly Details Of Bangladesh MP's 'Contract Killing'

Bangladesh MP Murder: Police say a US citizen, who was a 'close friend' on Anwarul Azim, ordered the 'hit' on him, and that he paid around Rs 5 crore to the contract killers for the job.

Kolkata: The West Bengal CID has arrested a 24-year-old butcher in connection with the alleged murder of Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim (Anar). The suspect, identified as Jihad Hawladar, is an undocumented immigrant from Khulna, Bangladesh. According to CID sleuths, the suspect said he and four other accused in the case chopped up Anwarul Azim's body and disposed of the pieces in various parts of Kolkata. However, the police are yet to recover the body parts.

Butcher Brought From Mumbai To Dispose Of Anwarul Azim's Body: Police Sources

Hawladar was brought from Mumbai by the other accused in the case to dispose of the corpse of Anwarul Azim. According to the CID, he was taken to Kolkata two months ago by one Akhtaruzzaman, a US Citizen of Bangladeshi origin, who is reportedly the mastermind behind the murder of Anwarul Azim.

US National Ordered Anwarul Azim's Murder?

Jihad Hawladar has purportedly confessed to the involvement of four other Bangladeshi nationals in the murder and disposal of the body. The murder of the three-time Bangladeshi MP was allegedly carried out on the orders of Akhtaruzzaman in a flat in Kolkata's New Town, CID sources told ABP Ananda. They believe Anwarul Azim was smothered to death before his body was chopped up into pieces.

Hawladar allegedly skinned the corpse inside the flat and chopped up the flesh to prevent identification of the body. The accused then sawed through the bones and packed the pieces in plastic bags, the police sources said. According to a report by news agency PTI, the flesh was separated from the bones and then covered with turmeric to prevent decomposition.

The accused used various modes of transport to take the packets and dispose of them in various areas within Kolkata. "The body parts were probably put inside plastic bags as well as in the trolley bag and scattered at different locations. We also suspect that some parts were kept in a refrigerator and we have collected samples," a West Bengal Police officer was quoted as saying by PTI.

Hawladar will be taken to the Barasat court to seek his remand. His statement will be verified and the police will attempt to recover the body parts. A search was earlier carried out to recover the packets with the parts of the Bangladeshi MP's body. However, nothing could be recovered.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka Police has arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in the murder of the Awami League MP. Anwarul Azim came to India on May 12, reportedly for medical treatment, and went missing on May 14.

MP May Have Been Lured Into New Town Flat By A Woman: Police

The Bengal police are probing a honey-trap angle into the alleged murder of the Bangladeshi MP. According to PTI, CID sources believe that a woman could have "lured" Anwarul Azim to the New Town flat, where contract killers murdered him. The report cited the police to claim that the US citizen who had ordered the 'hit' on Anwarul Azim was the MP's close friend, and that he had paid around Rs 5 crore to the contract killers.

"Our investigation indicates that the Bangladeshi parliamentarian fell into a honey trap laid by a woman who was also close to the victim's friend. It seems, Anar was lured into the New Town flat by the woman. We suspect he was murdered soon after he went to the flat," the officer told PTI.

"The Awami League MP's friend owns a flat in Kolkata and is suspected to be in the US at present.

The killers are suspected of having sent texts from Azim's cellphone to his friends and family asking them to refrain from contacting him "as he was travelling to Delhi". "It seems these messages were sent from the MP's mobile phone to confuse his family members and friends and prevent them from launching a search for him... there is a possibility that these messages were sent after his murder," the officer was quoted by PTI.
