Anti-CAA Protest: 6 Arrested For Seelampur Violence; Sec 144 Imposed in Northeast Delhi

One FIR is also registered in Brijpuri case, under IPC sections for stone pelting in which few people also sustained injuries .

New Delhi: A total of six people have been arrested by police in connection with Tuesday’s violence in Delhi’s Seelampur area. Raids are being conducted to apprehend some other people who have also been identified. Delhi Police has filed 2 FIRs in connection with Tuesday’s Jaffrabad incident under the IPC sections for rioting and damaging public property. The backgrounds of those arrested are being checked by the police. One FIR also registered in Brijpuri under IPC sections for stone pelting in which few people also sustained injuries . Section 144 Imposed In Northeast Delhi:  Authorities on Wednesday imposed prohibitory orders in northeast Delhi in the wake of violence that ensued in Seelampur following protest over the Citizenship Amendment Act. Section 144 CrPc has been imposed in northeast Delhi, a police officer said. Assembly of more than four people is banned under the orders. Suddenly they started pelting stones. We held talks with them after which they have dispersed. Situation is under control now. Few people were injured," said RP Meena, Additional DCP, North East Delhi. Earlier on Tuesday, protests were held in Delhi's Seelampur area. Delhi Police's Public Relations Officer (PRO) MS Randhawa said that a police booth was damaged during the protest. He also denied the speculations of fire incident at a police station and said that no police station was set on fire during Tuesday's incident. "No police station was set on fire today, only one police booth was damaged during the protest. CCTV footage is being collected and will be examined", Randhawa was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. The clashes erupted two days after violence broke out during a protest in the New Friends area in South Delhi near Jamia Millia Islamia. Protests were also reported from Brijpuri in northeast Delhi around 8:30 pm, but were brought under control.
