Since 1974, May 12 has been designated as International Nurses Day to honour Florence Nightingale, who is regarded as the father of modern nursing.

New Delhi: International Nurses Day is observed on May 12 every year to remember the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, who was born on May 12, 1820. Nightingale was a British nurse, statistician, and social reformer who built the groundwork for what we see as contemporary nursing- a planned, rigorous process of caring for the sick back to health.
