Woman, 9-Month-Old Daughter Die After Stepping On Live Wire Falls In Bengaluru, Staff Suspended

A woman and her nine-month-old daughter were electrocuted in Bengaluru after stepping on a live wire. A case has been registered in the matter.

A woman and her nine-month-old daughter died near Bengaluru's Hope Farm under Kadugodi Police Station after stepping on a live electric wire belonging to the BESCOM department, the police have said. The incident happened when the duo stepped on the unattended wire early on Sunday when they were on their way home from Tamil Nadu. Graphics visuals showed their bodies lying in the area with the luggage strewn around. According to the police, as reported by news agency PTI, both the mother and the child died due to electrocution.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Whitefield told news agency ANI, "A case has been registered and investigations have started. The concerned BESCOM officials and staff are being interrogated."

Karnataka Energy Minister KJ George said an inquiry has been initiated into the incident and promised tough action against those responsible. He added that the line man, Assistant Engineer (AE) and Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) were suspended. He said, "We have taken up an inquiry into the incident that has led to these deaths and are awaiting the report. The line man, AE and AEE have been suspended for dereliction of duty. Anyone else responsible for this accident will be dealt with tough actions so that such mishaps do not recur in the future. The state government will give Rs 5 lakh each to the family members who have lost their kin in this incident."

"Our prayers are with the families that have lost their precious members. The state government will give Rs 5 lakh each to the family members who have lost their kins in this grave incident," he added.

The woman's husband tried to save her and the child but could not, sources said. The bodies were shifted to the hospital for further procedures, police said.

MP PC Mohan tweeted, "The electrocution at Hope farm Junction, where a young woman lost her life, is heartbreaking and highlights the urgency for BESCOM to adopt preventive measures. A heightened sense of responsibility from BESCOM is crucial in averting such incidents and ensuring a safer environment."
