Hassan: 13 Students Test Positive For Coronavirus At Residential School, Sent To Covid Care Centre

The Nodal officer has said that all the students who tested positive are asymptomatic and were isolated in the school premises and are now being shifted to covid care center. 

New Delhi: Thirteen students at Morarji Desai Residential School in Chanraipatna taluk of Hassan district in Karnataka tested positive for coronavirus. As many as 190 people including students and staff were tested for Covid-19 out of which results of 13 students returned positive. 

All the students who tested positive are below 18 years of age and have not been vaccinated. The test was conducted after guidelines were issued by the Karnataka government to conduct a covid test for all the students in all the educational institutions across the state every 15 days. 

The Nodal officer has said that all the students who tested positive are asymptomatic and were isolated on the school premises and are now being shifted to a Covid care centre. 

Recently 48 nursing students in Karnataka had tested covid positive. 99 more students after that tested positive in Bengaluru taking the tally to 281 on Saturday. Two South African nationals also tested positive in Bengaluru recently. 

Taking stock of the situation, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai called a meeting with the officials and made it mandatory for people coming from Maharashtra and Kerala to undergo the Covid-19 test upon arrival in the state. 

After the meeting, the Chief Minister also requested the Centre to allow administering booster doses for the general public and frontline workers. He also emphasised taking the vaccination for people who have not received their second dose of the vaccine in the state. 

On the national front, the Central government has made a list of ‘at risk’ which includes the United Kingdom, entire Europe, South Africa, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Israel, and Hong Kong, as reported by PTI.

Passengers in transit or arriving from these countries in India will be required to undergo RT-PCR. If tested positive with the Omicron variant, they will be taken to a medical facility for isolation. If any other variant is found, the patient’s release will be at the discretion of the doctor based on the patient’s condition.
