Ideas Of India 3.0: Aamir Khan Says He Will Upload His Audition Video For Laapataa Ladies On YouTube After Film's Release

At the ABP Network's Ideas of India Summit, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan said that he will share his audition video for the upcoming film 'Laapataa Ladies' on YouTube once the movie, directed by Kiran Rao, hits the screens.

Ideas Of India 3.0: At the ABP Network's Ideas of India Summit, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan said that he will share his audition video for the upcoming film 'Laapataa Ladies' on YouTube once the movie, directed by Kiran Rao, hits the screens.

During a session titled 'Telling Laapataa Tales: Scenes from an Invisible Nation' on the inaugural day of the third edition of ABP Network’s Ideas of India Summit, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao provided insights into their upcoming film 'Laapataa Ladies'. Moderated by Dibang, the session explored various aspects of the film, including Aamir's initial desire to play a specific role in the movie, ultimately portrayed by actor Ravi Kishan. Aamir Khan is producing the film under his banner Aamir Khan Productions.

Aamir shared that he initially expressed interest in the role played by Ravi Kishan and even underwent a screen test for it. While both Aamir and Kiran acknowledged his performance, they were concerned that Aamir's star status might overshadow the character, altering people's expectations. Aamir explained, "As I offered the script to Kiran, I told her I would want to do this role. Kiran said, 'You are a big star; you will disbalance my small film.' I then insisted on giving the screen test, and I think I was very good. But after watching the audition, we both felt that if I will be in the film as a star, people’s expectations would change. So we felt that I should not be in the film."

Kiran Rao added a cheeky remark, recalling Aamir's suggestion to disguise himself perfectly for the role. She responded, "What would be the point if people would not recognise you; we have to sell tickets."

Kiran then appreciated Ravi Kishan, who is playing a cop in the film, and said that nobody would have done the role better than him. Aamir echoed this sentiment, describing Ravi Kishan as "fantastic" in the film.

Aamir then shared that he will upload his audition video on YouTube after the film's release, allowing the audience to judge his performance. "Once the film is released, I will put my audition on YouTube. The audience will judge," he said.

About Laapataa Ladies script
Aamir Khan revealed that he got hold of the Laapataa Ladies' script in a script competition where he was a jury member. Calling the script "tasty and dramatic", he said that he thought Kiran Rao would be best to direct the film.

"When this story came to me I felt this would be the right story for Kiran. Kiran is a very honest filmmaker. I felt she was ideal for this story," the actor said.

Kiran then further said that they made changes in the script and added humour to it. "The script was more realistic, I felt it had a huge potential for humour, so we involved a new screenwriter, Sneha Desai. She wrote the new screenplay. We have changed the flavour of the script," she added.

Laapataa Ladies, set in rural India, is about two young brides who get lost on a train and the pursuit of people who find themselves in a series of bafflement on the go.

The film stars Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav, Nitanshi Goel and Ravi Kishan.

On working with newcomers
Kiran Rao expressed her admiration for the newcomers in the project. She commended Sparsh, Nitanshi, and Pratibha for displaying remarkable confidence in their debut film.

She remarked, "This is their first film, but they have so much confidence and willingness to learn. They have a hunger to learn that makes up for the experience that they don't have."

Aamir Khan joined in the praise for the three actors, expressing amazement at their exceptional work in their debut film. He stated, "These three are amazing actors. Despite it being their first film, their work has so much finesse. It is so amazing to see. Youngsters are at least 10 steps ahead of us."
