Delhi Witnesses Concerning Surge In COVID Cases For 2nd Day With 107 Infections, Highest Spike Since June 27

The city health department, which shared this data, said the Covid-19 positivity rate stood at 0.17 percent. The national capital had logged 259 Covid-19 cases and four deaths earlier on June 27.

New Delhi: In what comes in as a cause of concern amid the Omicron threat, Delhi on Sunday recorded 107 fresh coronavirus cases, the highest since June 27, and one death.

The city health department, which shared this data, said the Covid-19 positivity rate stood at 0.17 percent. The national capital had logged 259 Covid-19 cases and four deaths earlier on June 27.

Earlier on Saturday, Delhi logged 86 new Covid cases, while 69 cases were reported a day before.

So far in December, three deaths due to Covid-19 have been recorded in Delhi. Seven deaths were reported earlier in November, while four in October and five in September, PTI reported.

The death toll due to the infection in the national capital stands at 25,101.

Earlier on Friday, the total number of patients infected with the Omicron variant jumped by 12 to reach 22.

The number of Covid cases recorded in Delhi so far has reached 14,42,197, while over 14 lakh patients have recovered from the infection.

Earlier on Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that his government is ready to tackle the Omicron variant.

“I have been holding meetings these last few days and I want to assure people that our government is ready to tackle Omicron,” he said at a Christmas and New Year event hosted by Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel in the assembly premises here, PTI reported.

Stating the Delhi government learnt lessons during the April wave of the pandemic and has worked on its shortcomings, Kejriwal said: “In April this year, the fourth wave of Covid in Delhi claimed many lives. We took help from everyone and together we brought it under control.”

“We pray to god there is no next wave, but if it comes we will bring it under control as we did during the last wave of infection in April,” he added.

Advising people not to panic, the Chief Minister said even though the variant was said to spread faster than the previous ones, its symptoms were mild.
