Nintendo Switch 2 India Launch Remains Uncertain, But Grey Market Tipped To Gear Up

During the India Gaming Show in February, Nintendo representatives reportedly met with local vendors to discuss the possibility of an official launch.

Nintendo Switch 2: The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to hit global shelves on June 5, 2025, but its official debut in India remains a mystery. While Nintendo has hinted at expanding into the Indian market, there’s no concrete confirmation yet. However, that hasn’t stopped grey market sellers from making their own plans.

Nintendo’s India Entry: Talks Are Ongoing

During the India Gaming Show in February, Nintendo representatives reportedly met with local vendors to discuss the possibility of an official launch. This aligns with earlier reports suggesting that the company evaluated India as a potential market. According to industry expert and gaming writer Rishi Alwani’s newsletter, 0451 Games, these discussions are still in progress, and no final decision has been made.

Even if an official launch doesn’t happen soon, Indian gamers won’t have to wait long to get their hands on the device. Grey market traders are already arranging to import the console as soon as it becomes available internationally.

Grey Market Prepares for Early Demand

Like its predecessor, the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to arrive in India through unofficial channels, with traders stocking up ahead of time. Some customers have even placed advance deposits to secure early units. One trader told 0451 Games, “Like the Switch launch, I don’t know if I will have enough stock after day one.”

But getting the console early comes at a price. Industry sources estimate that the Switch 2 could cost up to 45 per cent more in the grey market, pushing its price to around Rs 55,000 ($650) initially, before settling at approximately Rs 45,000. If Nintendo decides to enter India officially, the price could still be 20-25 per cent higher than the U.S. retail tag of $449.99 (~Rs 38,000).

What’s New in the Nintendo Switch 2?

Nintendo’s latest handheld console brings significant upgrades, featuring a 7.9-inch LCD screen with a 1080p resolution and support for 4K output at 120fps when docked. The redesigned Joy-Con controllers introduce new functionalities, including mouse control and a C button for a voice chat feature called GameChat.

The Switch 2 also comes with upgraded red game cartridges, a spacious 256GB internal storage (expandable via microSD Express), and immersive spatial 3D sound. These enhancements are expected to make it a strong contender in the handheld gaming space, regardless of its official status in India.

For now, Indian gamers eager to grab the console will have to rely on unofficial imports—unless Nintendo finally decides to make its long-awaited entry into the country.
