The polling for the 243-member Bihar assembly elections 2020 are being held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7:

  • Bihar Elections Phase 1 Voting - October 28 will cover 71 assembly constituencies
  • Bihar Elections Phase 2 Voting - November 3 will cover 94 seats
  • Bihar Elections Phase 3 Voting - Scheduled on November 7 will cover 78 assembly seats

The much-awaited Bihar Assembly Elections will take place in three phases starting from October 28, 2020. The result for Bihar election will be declared on November 10. Bihar has to elect a new 243-member assembly as its current tenure ends on November 29.

  • 1st PHASE - October 28, 2020
  • 2nd PHASE - November 3 , 2020
  • 3RD PHASE - November 7, 2020

Bihar Elections 2020: Key Candidates In Fray

Current CM and JDU chief Nitish Kumar has been declared as the face of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming state assembly polls whereas his former deputy and leader of Opposition in Bihar Tejashwi Yadav is most likely to be the chief ministerial candidate for RJD-Congress-led Mahagathbandhan.

Several other candidates including Pushpam Priya Choudhary of Plural's Party, Lok Janshakti Party leader Chirag Paswan, Upendra Kushwaha from Grand Democratic Secular Alliance and Jan Adhikar Party's Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav will also contest against Nitish Kumar with an eye on the Chief Minister's seat.

Bihar Elections 2020: Key Constituencies

Leader of opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is contesting the polls from Raghopur contituency whereas his brother and former health minister of Bihar Tej Pratap Yadav is contesting from Hasanpur seat. Incumbent Assembly speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhury is JDU candidate from Dalsinghsarai.

Former chief minister Jeetan Ram Manjhi is NDA nominee from Sherghati. Agriculture Minister Prem Kumar is BJP candidate from Gaya City. Education minister Krishnanad Verma is JDU nominee from Jahanabad.

Bihar Elections 2015: A Look At Previous Poll Results

In the assembly elections in 2015, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had emerged as the largest party by winning 80 seats, while the ruling Janata Dal won 71 seats and Congress had remained the weak link with 27 seats to its name.

Meanwhile, BJP managed to win only 53 seats despite riding on the Modi wave, followed by two seats by the LJP and one seat by Jitan Ram Manjhi-led HAM. Later on, Nitish Kumar decided to part ways with RJD and joined NDA in July 2017.
