Thalaivar 171 Title Revealed: Everything We Know About Rajinikanth Starrer 'Coolie'

As promised, Lokesh Kanagaraj has finally revealed the title of Rajinikanth starrer ‘Thailavar 171’, Coolie, and the teaser on April 22 & like his other films, this seems to be an event to celebrate.

Thalaivar 171 Title Reveal & Updates: Everytime Lokesh Kanagaraj and a South cinema superstar come together for a film, we know it is going to be a blast. Think 'Leo' or 'Vikram'! And, now imagine Kanagaraj with the OG superstar of Tamil cinema-Rajinikanth, lovingly called Thalaivar by his fans. Ever since 'Thalaivar 171' was announced as a collaboration between Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth, fans have been unable to keep calm. 

As promised, Lokesh Kanagaraj has finally revealed the title of ‘Thailavar 171’ on April 22, 2024 and like his other films, this seems to be an event to celebrate. Fans have been trending ‘Thalaivar 171’ since Monday morning on social media platforms like X. The title, as shared by the production house Sun Pictures, was unveiled at 6:00 PM.

Taking to his official Instagram handle, Lokesh shared the title poster of Rajinikanth with the caption, "We love you Thalaiva @rajinikanth❤️ #Coolie 💪."

Coolie teaser

 

The teaser of 'Coolie' was also shared by the makers on YouTube. In the 3 minute 16 seconds teaser, we get a complete monochrome look of the action, catchy music and the signature Kanagaraj moves, not to mention the major 'God Shot' or hero introduction featuring Rajinikanth.

Not just that, adding to the brewing excitement is the fact that Telugu megastar Nagarjuna has also been roped in to play a key role in the Rajinikanth starrer 'Coolie'.

While no official announcement has come from the production houses bankrolling 'Thalaivar 171', several Telugu publications have speculated an incoming announcement notice soon.

Shruti Haasan, Shobana in Rajinikanth starrer

There have also been rumours about Shruti Haasan playing the role of Rajinikanth's daughter in the film. Veteran actor Shobana is also said to be playing a key role in 'Coolie', however, nothing has been confirmed from the team's end.

Ranveer Singh, Shah Rukh Khan in Thalaivar 171, 'Coolie'?

There have also been reports about top B-Town talent being part of 'coolie'. As per sources close to the dveelopment, Ranveer Singh will play an important role in the film, India.com reported.

Meanwhile, megastar Shah Rukh Khan can also have a cameo. However, again, nothing has been confirmed.

Thalaivar 171 Title Leak On Reddit

Even before the official announcement came in, there were speculations on Reddit  about the possible name leak of the Lokesh Kanagarj directorial. Several fan pages suggested that the Rajinikanth-starrer was named 'Raa Naa' while others suggested it is named 'Thangam'. Several other fan clubs reported that the film is named 'Kazhugu'.

Soon after 'Thalaivar 171' film announcement, several first look posters were unveiled. Lokesh Kanagaraj's most recent poster with a title film announcement was shared with a caption that read, "Tomorrow 6 pm onwards D.I.S.C.O (sic)”. 

Fans have been speculating on the name ever since the poster was shared on Sunday, April 21. Many have decoded that the term  D.I.S.C.O refers to Rajinikanth's iconic song from the 1983 film 'Thanga Magan'. As 'Thangam' means gold, which has also become a recurrent pattern in the posters shared until now, there is a strong possiblity that 'Thalaivar 171' will be named 'Thangam'.

Several reports about 'Thalaivar 171' or 'Coolie' being inspired from the Hollywood film 'The Purge' have also been doing the rounds on social media. Many eagle-eyed fans on various social media platforms like Reddit have declared 'Coolie' is based on the happenings of a single day. 

However, one thing is confirmed that 'Coolie' is not a part of Kanagaraj's cinematic universe although eagle-eyed fans have drawn several references with Rajinikanth's previous films. Fans have already found a 'Moondru Mugum', 'Uzhaippali' connection in 'Thalaivar 171's first look.
