Tamil Superstar Ajith Kumar Hints At Retirement: 'You Never Know!'

Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar reflects on retirement, life beyond cinema, and his accidental entry into films after receiving the Padma Bhushan. Read his inspiring interview.

Tamil actor Ajith Kumar, one of the biggest superstars of his generation, has left fans emotional after hinting at a possible retirement from films. The actor, who was recently conferred with the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour, opened up about life beyond cinema during an interview with India Today.

Ajith Kumar reveals acting was never part of the plan

Ajith received the prestigious award earlier this week at a grand ceremony in Delhi. Reflecting on the moment and his future, the 54-year-old actor shared,“You never know! It’s not about me planning when to retire, I could be forced into retirement. I don’t want to take anything for granted. People complain about life. To wake up and feel alive itself is a blessing. I am not being philosophical here. I have been through surgeries and injuries. I have friends and family who are cancer survivors. We understand how valuable life is – just to be alive. I want to make use of every second of my life – want to make the most of it.”

Ajith also revealed that acting was never part of his original career plan.

“Acting was never on my radar. I am an accidental actor. After school, I started working in an auto manufacturing company for about six months. I was 18 when I started racing motorcycles… Then, before I realised it, I began doing print ads and TV commercials,” he said.

About Ajith Kumar

Ajith Kumar has been a top box office draw in Tamil cinema for over two decades. Known for his versatile roles and enigmatic screen presence, he made a comeback to films in 2025 after a two-year hiatus to focus on his professional racing career.

His comeback film, 'Vidaamuyarchi', earned praise from critics but underperformed commercially, collecting a modest ₹138 crore. However, Ajith bounced back with his latest release 'Good Bad Ugly', which has turned into a box office blockbuster, crossing the ₹200 crore mark within just two weeks of its release.
