On September 20th, 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' was released in theatres all over the globe in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.

New Delhi: The movie "Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1," directed by Mani Ratnam, has been a huge success at the box office ever since it was released. Current box office projections of day 12th had the film getting close to Rs 450 crore. Trade analysts predict the historical fiction movie will do more than expected over this weekend. The movie is also set to maintain its box office dominance till Diwali.

On September 20th, the film was released in theatres all over the globe in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Although the Tamil version is doing very well at the box office in India and abroad, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is not doing as well in other languages.

HT quoted expert Trinath stating, “At the end of Wednesday, PS1’s Tamil Nadu gross stood at around ₹186 crore. It has beaten Vikram’s lifetime collection in TN in less than two weeks. With no major releases till Diwali, PS1 will comfortably cross ₹200 crore mark in Tamil Nadu and it’s not going to be easy for any other film to beat the record.

In terms of worldwide revenue, the film is getting closer to the 450 crore level. According to some cinema experts, it will make more than 500 crore in total box office revenue by the time it stays in the theatres.

About the movie Ponniyin Selvan-I:

Ponniyin Selvan-I, based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 historical fiction book of the same name, tells the tale of the youth of Arulmozhivarman, a strong southern ruler who later rose to become Rajaraja Chola I, played by Jayam Ravi. In the second part, he is anticipated to have a larger role.

To bring a message from Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan, Vandiyathevan sets out to traverse the Chola territory. As vassals and minor chieftains conspire to assassinate the crown, Kundavai tries to bring about political harmony. A long-tailed comet enters the sky, heralding a period of unrest, and the nation is in turmoil.

The much-awaited movie received favourable reviews from viewers. Ponniyin Selvan-I, which was supported by Allirajah Subaskaran's production company Lyca Productions, has been made available in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. The film's soundtrack was composed by music legend AR Rahman, while Ravi Varman handled the photography.
