They’re Putting Us Down: Samyuktha Responds To Being Called A ‘Heroine With Golden Leg’
Samyuktha believes that the success or failure of a movie shouldn't be used to label a heroine.
New Delhi: Samyuktha, who most recently appeared in Dhanush's film 'SIR', believes that the success or failure of a movie shouldn't be used to label a heroine. In a recent media interview, Samyuktha responded when a reporter referred to her as a "heroine with a golden leg" because she had a string of three hits.
On Friday, 'Virupaksha', the Telugu movie starring Samyuktha, hit theatres. She was asked how it felt to be a "heroine with golden leg" during the movie's pre-release meet. Samyuktha was questioned if she has received any offers and if she accepts the fact that she is being referred to as a "golden leg" heroine.
“It’s a very bad concept. To call a heroine golden leg or iron leg. Whether a film succeeds or flops, the responsibility falls on everyone in the film. It feels like they’re putting us down saying that we are only getting success because we’re lucky. The women put in a lot of effort behind choosing the rights scripts and doing the right performance. The success we get is based on these factors. This is what I feel,” Samyuktha responded.
According to the reporter, Telugu film producers typically choose female stars based on their track record of success. He continued by saying that a "heroine" who consistently stars in blockbuster films is automatically referred to as the one with the "golden leg". He further stated that several heroines in the past had their roles cut when their films were box office duds, earning them the nickname "iron legs."
Talking about the ‘iron leg’ tag, she added, “I think it’s an age-old concept and we should keep it aside. Don’t take women because she’s lucky. Casting should be done on the basis she’s suitable for a character.”
'Virupaksha', which was directed by Karthik Varma Dandu, also features Sai Dharam Tej.
