National Film Awards 2023: Rocketry The Nambi Effect Wins Best Feature Film

The Best film at the 69th National Film Awards went to 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' which starred R Madhavan in the titular role and also happened to be directed by him. The film was Madhavan's directorial debut.

New Delhi: The 69th National Film Awards winners have been announced. The Best film went to 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' which starred R Madhavan in the titular role and also happened to be directed by him. The film was Madhavan's directorial debut.

'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' is a biographical drama film, produced and directed by R Madhavan. The film is based on the life of Nambi Narayanan, a scientist at the ISRO who was accused of espionage and later exonerated. The titular role was played by Madhavan.

The film premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2022 and was released in India on July 1, 2022.

'Rocketry' was positively received by critics and audiences. Made on a budget of Rs. 60 cr, the film collected Rs. 150 crores at the box office.

'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' was filmed simultaneously in Tamil, Hindi and English languages. The film also had special appearances by Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya in the film. 

Critics and audiences had praised the film for his direction, research, performances and the screenplay. R Madhavan received a lot of acclaim for his film. The film travelled largely due to glowing word of mouth reviews.

Several Indian film personalities had also rooted for 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' including Rajinikanth, Anupam Kher, Anirudh Ravichander and Shilpa Shetty among others. The film was also screened for several civil servants and politicans in the Parliament building last year, several of whom lauded the film

Among other films, Bollywood films like 'Shershaah' received a special mention from the jury while Vicky Kaushal starrrer 'Sardar Udham' won the best cinematography award beside 4 other awards.

The announcement of the 69th edition of the National Film Awards happened at 5 PM. The winners list was announced during a press conference by the  jury at the National Media Centre, New Delhi. The event was streamed live on PIB India's Facebook page and their Youtube channel.
