Kangana Ranaut's political drama Emergency has been banned from release in Bangladesh, sparking discussions across entertainment and diplomatic spheres. A source familiar with the situation stated, "The decision to halt the screening of Emergency in Bangladesh is tied to the current strained relations between India and Bangladesh. The ban is less about the content of the film and more about the ongoing political dynamics between the two nations."
About Emergency
Emergency delves into the Indian Army and Indira Gandhi’s government’s involvement in the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence and the support extended to Shaikh Mujibur Rehman, often referred to as the Father of Bangladesh. Rehman, who hailed Indira Gandhi as "Goddess Durga," is also a central figure in the narrative.
The film further explores the assassination of Shaikh Mujibur Rehman by Bangladeshi extremists—an aspect believed to have contributed to the film's prohibition in Bangladesh.

With its Indian release just three days away, Emergency has generated significant buzz for its bold portrayal of a critical moment in Indian history. However, the ban in Bangladesh underscores a growing trend where political climates increasingly shape cultural exchanges.
The film, featuring a stellar ensemble cast including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Ashok Chhabra, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik, is slated for a theatrical release on January 17. 'Emergency' comes at a crucial juncture for Kangana, whose career has been marred by consecutive box-office disappointments, including her recent film Tejas (2023).
