New Delhi: The 77th Cannes Film Festival is around the corner and some Indian entries have already found their way into the prestigious award event in the French Riviera. Among the latest edition, Film and Television Insititue of India's student film 'Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know' has been selected in the La Cinef competitive section of Cannes 2024.
'Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know' at Cannes 2024
FTII's official Twitter handle shared the announcement on their official Twitter handle with the caption, "Big Announcement!We are honoured to share that FTII’s student film "Sunflowers were the first ones to know" is selected to compete at 77th Cannes Film Festival It is the only Indian film among 18 shorts selected from 2,263 entries by film schools all over the world."

As per FTII, "Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know’ is a story of an elderly woman who steals the village's rooster, which throws the community into disarray. To bring the rooster back, a prophecy is invoked, sending the old lady's family into exile."
'Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know ' has been directed by Chidanand Naik, shot by Suraj Thakur, and edited by Manoj V. The film's music has been composed by Abhishek Kadam. The film was produced as part of the institute's year end cooridnated exercise of their TV-wing.
India’s other entries at Cannes 2024
Earlier, Payal Kapadia's debut fiction feature film 'All We Imagine As Light' was selected to compete for the top prize category at Cannes 2024. Cannes will take place at the French Riviera from May 14 to May 25.
'All We Imagine As Light' will become the first Indian film to compete for the Palme d'Or award after nearly four decades.
Kapadia's film will be competeing alongside the biggest names in the filmmaking industry at the Cannes.
Santosh’, by British-Indian director Sandhya Suri, has also been chosen for the festival's Un Certain Regard section.
