Sushant Singh Rajput, who was battling depression since the past six months, told director Rumi Jaffery that he wanted to quit acting but never revealed the reason.

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who committed suicide on Sunday (June 14), was all set to team up with his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty for a new film. Sushant and Rhea didn’t work together before and movie buffs would have seen them together for the very first time on the silver screen. However, before the shoot could begin, Sushant left for his heavenly abode. The shooting was expected to start from May end but Rumi couldn’t commence the shoot due to the lockdown. The ‘Kai Po Che’ actor was quite nervous to start shooting for the film and was also excited to work with his girlfriend Rhea for the very first time in his career. The makers of the upcoming flick had plans to shoot in Mumbai, North India and the United Kingdom. Rumi Jaffery has worked with Rhea Chakroborty in ‘Chehre’. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashami. The director said that Sushant was getting uneasy with the lockdown extension. Rumi, while speaking exclusively with ABP News, said, “After the relaxation in lockdown, Sushant advised me to make another film on small scale. The talented actor told me that we should start a new film with a unit of 20-25 members, keeping in mind the lockdown guidelines. I was thinking of working on a new script after Sushant’s advice." He wanted to quit acting. The ‘Raabta’ actor didn’t reveal the reason despite my constant questions. He often used to say that he wanted to do farming. Sometimes, he said, ‘I want to plant one lakh tree across the country and invent new things like a scientist’. He wished to invent something like a scientist,” Jaffery added. The director also said that he messaged Sushant after he came to know about his former manager Disha Salian’s suicide. “I asked him to take care of himself. In response to my voice note, Sushant said that he would. I never knew he would take such a drastic step and leave us forever,” Rumi said.
